Stash

Collection of personal fabrics, pins
This is a collection of fabrics collected over the past fifteen years, organized chronologically, beginning in the top left corner. Personal fabric collections are often referred to as one's ‘fabric stash’ in popular DIY culture.
The word stash refers to a secret store of something. This collection speaks as much about cultural, social and personal histories as it does about textile craft. Exposing these materials re-contextualizes them by cataloging a personal history via fabric swatches, unearthing specific times, places, people, memories, and unfinished projects. The physical engagement with one’s accumulated material history and juxtaposition of revealing the collection as a whole provides a dialogue between the contemporary and the historical, public and private. Emphasizing their aesthetic and metaphorical potential, these swatches become public objects rather than clandestine raw material.
